Department of International Cooperation and Exchange

Beijing Administration Institute’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, together with its Center for Academic Exchange with Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, was established in 1997. Under the leadership of the Institute President, the Department is responsible for handling foreign affairs. 

The Department’s main functions include:

(1) Formulate the Institute’s medium-and long-term plans in international cooperation and exchange, and contribute to the Institute’s annual planning based on its development plans and needs.
(2) Establish the Institute’s regulations for foreign affairs in accordance with the laws and regulations pertaining to foreign affairs set by the CentralGovernment.

(3) Arrange overseas travel for official business on behalf of the faculty and administrators of our Institute as well as those of our branch campuses; assist Beijing municipal officials attending government sponsored training sessions on our campus with their overseas travel for official business; and assist our graduate students with international exchange and research projects.
(4) Receive visiting foreign groups and individuals who are the Institute’s partners in cooperation and exchange.

(5) Receive foreign affairs personnel from national and Beijing municipal organizations and provide support for their work in international exchange; receive foreign affairs personnel from other Administration Institute in China and provide support for their work in international exchange.
(6) Organize and coordinate the Institute’s international academic exchange and work concerning international exchange.

(7) Acquaint Institute personnel with foreign etiquette before they embark on overseas travel for official business, and help in obtaining travel documents.
(8) Maintain and update the Institute’s English-language website; maintain and update the page for “International Cooperation and Exchange” on the Institute’s Chinese language website.
(9) Receive visitors to the cemetery of Matteo Ricci and other foreign missionaries and develop opportunities to further enrich this historical link between China and the West.
(10) Undertake other duties assigned by the Institute leadership.

Prominent Visiting Groups

BAI invites foreign scholars to campus on a regular basis to add an international component to its training and teaching. In the past five years, the Institute has hosted about 360 visiting groups from abroad, totaling 3,300 individuals. Through interactions with these visiting scholars, our faculty and students gained opportunities to broaden their insights into global affairs, thus enlivening the intellectual atmosphere on campus.

International Forums
BAI periodically holds international academic forums and seminars. Since 1998, we have invited many distinguished foreign scholars and experts to make presentations on such topics as international politics, economy, culture, society, and the environment at our international academic forums. In the past five years, the Institute has sponsored 70 international symposiums that have generated great interest among both faculty and students.

International Training Programs
BAI has added an overseas component to its training programs for public administration personnel. Since 2000, the Institute has organized twelve sessions of the Sino-US Public Administration Training Program with the University of Georgia. Participants received training on our campus for four weeks before embarking on a short-term investigative and training course in the United States. Foreignand Chinese media, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (USA), Reference News (China), and the BBC, have reported favorably on this program.

The Institute has jointly organized many training and researchsessions in cooperation with foreign universities and training institutes. In 2012, cooperation with the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre resulted in seven sessions for training a total of 223 Bangladeshi mid- and high-level government officials. In the past five years, the Institute has hosted about 55 training and research groups, with a total of approximately 700 participants, from the United States, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Bangladesh, among other countries. These foreign participants have all highly praised our programs.
 

Research Abroad

BAI routinely selects faculty, researchers, administrators to go abroad to lecture on, study, investigate, and develop relevant research topics. Key countries and regions of academic exchange include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Ethiopia, Australia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Laos, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
