The Conservative Party is the largest party in the British Parliament. The Conservative Party was founded as the Tory Party in 1679 and changed its name to the Conservative Party in 1833. The current leader of the Conservative Party, Rishi Sunak. The Conservative Party was in power for 18 years four times between 1979 and 1997. Following the May 2015 General election, the Conservative Party came into power alone, with David Cameron forming a Conservative government. Supporters generally come from the corporate and wealthy classes. It advocated a free market economy, strict control of the money supply, reduction of public spending, low inflation, restriction of trade union rights, and strengthening of "law" and "order." It emphasizes the preservation of British sovereignty, opposes the "federal Europe", the EU constitution, and does not join the eurozone.

The Conservative Party used to use the "Torch of Freedom" as its emblem, but now it has changed to using a green oak tree as its new logo. On December 6, 2005, the Conservative Party adopted a new slogan called 'Change to Win Win for Britain'. Traditionally, the official colors of the Conservative Party are red, white, and blue, but blue is the most commonly used to distinguish it from the red of the Labour Party (in some constituencies in Cumbria, the Conservative Party will choose yellow to symbolize the family coat of arms of the local Earl of Lonsdale).

The Conservative Party was the dominant political party in the United Kingdom in the 20th century, producing famous prime ministers such as Winston Churchill and Margaret Hilda Thatcher.
