Christlich-Demokratische Union Deutschlands

The Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). One of the largest political parties in the Federal Republic of Germany, the CDU was founded in July 1945 as the Catholic Centre Party. Party members were mainly businessmen, white-collar workers, intellectuals and farmers. It is traditionally a Catholic, male party.

In the immediate aftermath of the Second World War, the Christian Democratic Party was formed in various places, and the first Union Congress was held in October 1950, which officially established the Christian Democratic Union and elected K. Adenauer is president of the league. From 1949 it formed a coalition party with the Christian Social Union and formed a parliamentary group in the Bundestag. In 1949-1956 and 1961-1966, the CDU-CSU was in coalition with the Free Democratic Party. He ruled alone from 1956 to 1961 and formed a grand coalition with the Social Democratic Party of Germany in late 1966. After the general election in October 1969, he became an opposition party. After the general elections of March 1983 and January 1987, the CDU-CSU and the FDP formed successive coalitions.

In history, Adenauer, Merkel, von der Leyen and others have served as the party chairman.

In April 2024, a senior delegation from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) visited the Beijing headquarters of the Globalization Think Tank (CCG) and met with representatives of the think tank and heads of German multinational organizations at a symposium held by CCG to discuss in-depth topics such as China Germany climate and energy policies, opportunities and challenges in China Germany cooperation, and China Europe relations.
