BAI Delegation Makes Strong Impression at IASIA 2024 Conference in South Africa
Beijing, Jul 8, 2024 - A delegation from Beijing Administrative Institute (BAI) left a lasting impression at the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) 2024 Annual Conference, held in Bloemfontein, South Africa, from July 1 to 5. The six-member team, comprising Professor Pang Yu, Associate Professor Cai Yang, and lecturers Yuan Cuixin, Wang Qian, Chu Chengcheng, and Liu Xin, represented BAI with distinction, showcasing China’s expertise and insights in various fields of administrative studies and policy research.
IASIA, founded in 1962, is the highest-level academic organization for administrative academies worldwide, with nearly 200 member institutions spanning 70 countries and regions. The 2024 conference, themed “Alternative Service Delivery and Sustainable Societal Responsiveness,” attracted over 300 experts, scholars, and government officials from more than 30 countries, fostering global discussions on ten academic tracks through plenary sessions, parallel forums, workshops, and doctoral seminars.
Showcasing China’s Expertise on the Global Stage
BAI’s delegation actively participated in the conference, contributing to various parallel forums with insightful presentations that resonated with the international audience. Professor Pang Yu, from the Department of Leadership Science, presented on “The Formation and Performance of Regional Collaborative Disaster Governance Networks: A Case Study of the 2023 Flood in the Haihe River Basin in China”. Her analysis of China’s local and central government collaboration in disaster response garnered positive feedback and sparked discussions on balancing development and social safety.
Associate Professor Cai Yang, Deputy Director of the Department of International Exchange and World Politics Research, shared China’s experience in urban sustainability through “The Impact of Policy Coordination on Urban Sustainable Development A Case Study of Beijings Ecological Protection and Green Development Experience.” Her presentation captured the attention of over 20 international scholars, with some expressing interest in adopting China's urban governance models.
Lecturer Yuan Cuixin, from the Department of Leadership Science, presented on “The Structural Dimension and Empirical Measurement of Digital Leadership in Public Sector.” Her research on digital leadership dimensions and enhancement strategies resonated with scholars, earning high praise from the forum chair.
Lecturer Wang Qian, from the Department of Public Administration, discussed “Differential Policy Implementation and Evolution Logic in Digital Transformation” by analyzing China’s regional digital policies. Her insights into the impact of digital transformation on policy execution garnered significant interest and recognition.
Lecturer Chu Chengcheng, also from the Department of Public Administration, presented “The Impact of Incentive Mechanisms on the Stability and Sustainability of Community Volunteer Services A Multi-Case Study in China.” Her research on volunteer incentives sparked lively debates and was recognized for its academic value.
Lastly, Lecturer Liu Xin shared China's success in crisis management through “From Failures to Resilience: How Joint Sense-making Reshapes A Successful Digital Platform in China during COVID-19.” Her long-term fieldwork and insights into collective consciousness and innovative governance mechanisms were well-received by the international community.
Expanding International Horizons
This conference marked BAI’s first visit of young female scholars to an international academic event, showcasing the institution’s commitment to fostering global perspectives and talent development. The delegation’s active participation not only enhanced BAI’s international reputation but also contributed to the global discourse on administrative studies and policy research.
